Gorilla Trekking and Yoga in Rwanda
Singita Kwitonda, on the edge of Volcanoes National Park.
Singita Kwitonda
On the edge of the forest
Volcanoes National Park is part of the Virunga Massif, home to more than half of the world's mountain gorillas. Twelve habituated gorilla families can be visited here, with eight permits a day for each family and a strict hour with them once you find them. Treks can take from under an hour to several hours through bamboo and cloud forest, and the minimum age is 15.
We stay at Singita Kwitonda: eight suites, each with a heated plunge pool and fireplaces, set in a plantation of indigenous trees that is restoring the buffer zone between community and park. Between treks there is daily Yoga, proper rest and very good food.
How to get there: fly into Kigali; the drive to the lodge takes about two and a half hours.
